From December 30 to January 6, Doug Cuomo (composer, guitarist, special effects), Beth Clayton (singer/instrumentalist) and Frank London (trumpeter), led by director David Schweizer and music director Alan Johnson, truly brought to life Doug’s setting of twenty four poems of obsession, loss, and longing. No small feat!

Each day the team discovered new ways to inhabit the work through improvised movement and musical improvisation as well as the written music and text. There was no separation between the instrumentalists and the singer, who could also be found at the keyboard, piano or guitar.

With John Conklin and Darrel Maloney also on hand for the workshop, ideas about the theatrical setting, lighting and visual framework for Winter’s Journey came to the foreground.

In short, the workshop was artistically fulfilling and extremely productive!
